Great to see Christ exalted and people responding to what appears to be a work of the Lord. I have yet to see any real reproofs against it however some aspects are a bit alarming. Hyper-charismatic leaders are latching on to this in a big way claiming this is the "first fruits" of the third great awakening they have been prophesying about for the last 40 years. This is not something Ausbury has any control over and unfortunate this group is so desperate that they pollute the move and cling to this as their own. This seems to also be what I would label the "viral revival". I genuinely don't think this "outpouring" would even still be happening if it occured 20 years ago before current social media technology. This also seems to have a very high school church camp feel to it. By that I mean heavy emphasis on worship which evokes a deep emotional response leading to a surface level of repentance that will last a month or two at best. Also there seems to be very little scriptural or true gospel emphasis. All that being said if this is a Spirit encounter people need to come to the knowledge, and understanding that God is real and the gospel is His power to salvation then let God be the judge.
Good analysis... if nothing else... it does reveal that there is a hunger out there among young people. They know something is very wrong. I am not sure what if anything comes of this but it should remind us that there is a generation out there that is seeking... that we shouldn't give up hope or write them off. I pray good things come from this, but we will no doubt see various charismatic groups and others try to seize this moment to spread their own agenda. As noted, we are already seeing some of that. I have seen small spurts of repentance and teaching of Scripture, but mostly it's been music and worship. So, we wait, we test all things, but we don't sit idle. We should be sharing our faith, and help this generation hear the Gospel and be discipled by the Body of Christ through the Word of God and the power of His Holy Spirit.
A friend of mine sent me Pastor Guzik’s thoughts on the Asbury situation. I feel like it’s a fair analysis. Check it out below:
